Imperfection

The idea of painting loosely had never really clicked with me before until I found out about the loose botanical paintings by Yuko Nagayama. Her artworks felt ephemeral and delicate and left me in awe. I decided to try painting loosely for this painting, and the process and the final artwork felt so much better than all of my other artworks which aimed at replicating reality. Though there is lesser detail in the painting, the overall composition sings, from the dripping paint to the transparent layers. Maybe the simplest things can really make us happy, if we let go of the idea of perfection, that is.
